What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth. They consist of a small titanium post that’s surgically placed into the jawbone, acting as an artificial tooth root. Once healed, a natural-looking crown is attached, restoring both the function and appearance of your smile.
Purpose
- Small titanium screw that replaces the root portion of a missing tooth.
- Surgically placed into the jawbone and allowed to fuse with the bone over a few months.
- Ideally replace the root of a missing tooth, helping to stop or prevent jawbone loss.
- Support a restoration for a missing tooth or teeth.
Procedure
- Dental implants can be placed immediately after the tooth extraction or later depending on the quality and quantity of bone available.
- Following consultation to ensure suitability for Implants, surgical placement of an implant under local anesthetic is planned.
- You can expect a minor degree of discomfort and possibly swelling post-treatment, we provide you with medication for pain relief.
- At 3 months later, there will be a second minor procedure to place a healing abutment and to take a scan/impression and construct the final crown.
- It’s important to follow the aftercare instructions, your dentist will advise when they need to see you for follow-up appointments.
